Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Gastric sleeve surgery is a very effective weight loss technique. Resecting a major portion of the stomach is done by creating a banana-shaped pouch. It is performed without disrupting normal connections with small intestine and oesophagus.

Opposite to other bariatric procedures gastric sleeve cause no change in the digestive system, the effect of which is lesser complication rates and quick recovery. It functions by successfully limiting the amount of food that can be consumed. It works with two very efficient mechanisms.

It makes the stomach smaller on one hand so that the patient feels full soon after eating a slighter portion piece o food. Secondly, the fundus is removed. The fundus of the stomach is the area that secretes ghrelin, the hormone that causes a person to feel hungry. This surgery makes the patient feel less hungry by mean of a hormonal mechanism. This results in lesser calorie intake and finally leads to massive weight loss.
